The Soul Healing Power of Psilocybin Assisted Therapy For Grief and Loss

butterfly release

Grief doesn’t just live in your mind. I’ve watched it live in women’s bodies — and I’ve watched it slowly consume them.

In my work, I’ve sat with mothers who have suffered traumatic loss of children. To cancer. To overdose. To accidents that made no sense and never will. These are women who woke up one morning to a world that had been split permanently in two.

What I witness in these women goes beyond sadness. It’s a nervous system that never came back down or allowed them to return to peace.

Their bodies are still in the moment of the call, the hospital room, the funeral. Science tells us why — grief of this magnitude activates the same neural pathways as physical pain and floods the body with cortisol for months, sometimes years. The immune system weakens and the deregulation impacts sleep and wellbeing.

Researcher Bessel van der Kolk spent decades documenting what I see with clients regularly: loss gets encoded in the body — The body doesn’t forget. It keeps grieving on its own timeline.

Research and my own client experiences have shown one supported session can create significant, lasting reductions in complicated grief. Clients describe not just relief — but soul level healing. The ability to hold love and loss at the same time without being destroyed by it.

I think about the mothers I sit with.

These women deserve this healing, this peace, this path back. I’m so grateful for the legal access Colorado provides and for the opportunity I have to share these women’s stories to help destigmatize this powerful plant medicine modality.
